The Malm Hospital in Jakobstad

Purpose

The Foundation supports higher education, popular education, institutions for public welfare, and research by awarding grants to individuals, working groups, or organizations. Foreign citizens are also eligible.

In even-numbered years (e.g. 2026, 2028, 2030 etc.) the stipends are granted for scientific research, in odd-numbered years (e.g. 2027, 2029, 2031 etc.) for higher education and the common good.

General Guidelines for 2026

In 2026, a total sum of 1 million euros will be granted for scientific research. Applicants should have at least a Master’s degree or other academic degree on a corresponding level. Stipends to be used as personal salary are granted for maximally six months. A half-year stipend is 13 000 euros for doctoral students and 15 000 euros for postdoctoral workers, while shorter working grants are proportionally smaller. Research grants must be applied for individually.

The application period begins on 1st April and ends 30th April, 2026.
The Otto A. Malm Donation Fund will change its application system in 2026.
A link to the new application system will be published as soon as the system becomes available. The application, including attachments (a short research plan of no more than 4 pages, budget, CV), shall be submitted electronically via the new web service. It is highly desirable that applicants name 1-3 persons as references, including their e-mail addresses, to whom the application system will automatically send requests for recommendations.

A list of the stipends granted will be published on the Foundation’s web page on July 1st, 2026. Recipients will then also be informed by email. No advance notice on the funding decisions will be given.
